With heavy hearts and also profound gratitude, we’re taking a moment to honor the life of our friend, teacher, and mentor, Julian Barnard, who has crossed the threshold.
Julian was a speaker for the plants and their healing gifts. His creative generosity illuminated the Bach essence plants in ways that are vividly rich and bring the qualities of each essence to life. No other teacher has offered this in such a comprehensive and generous way: his books, especially Bach Flower Remedies: Form and Function, and The Bach Flower Remedies: The Essence Within, along with every segment of his Bach Flower Learning Program, are the best and richest resource available for all of those who want to deepen their resonance with the Bach Flower Remedies.
His boundless generosity has helped many. Julian collaborated with dedicated people throughout the world for decades, sharing his educational work free of charge and helping populations in need to have free access to the healing of the flowers. He has encouraged the work of other teachers and schools, including ours, and has helped all of those in service to truly grow and thrive.
Since our school’s inception, we’ve been blessed by his gifts of participation in our conferences as well as his authorization and support for us as a US home for his Bach Flower Learning Program. This program is also an important reference for our Bach Flower Foundations course and the Bach Flowers in Contemporary Practice series.
Julian was a leader in showing us how to study the plants in order to gain insight into the essences. This has been an important foundation for all three of us and a big source of inspiration for our “plant-centric” teaching approach, which was well-met with Julian’s approval.
There’s so much that Julian has given to the world, not the least being his activism. His fierce determination and courage are in great part what has allowed us all to freely access Dr. Bach’s legacy and knowledge, and even to be able to use the term, “Bach” flowers.
Today, we are celebrating the life of this shining soul. Julian will continue to mentor and encourage us, while we continue to learn and teach inspired by the fruits of his dedication and generosity. The integrity of his life and work lives on.
Full announcement from Healingherbs
It is with great sadness and regret that we have to announce the death of Julian Barnard on Sunday, 13th September 2026.
Julian founded Healingherbs with the encouragement and support of Nickie Murray, following her departure from the Bach Centre.
Under her guidance he developed the education resource. This continued to be his mission throughout his life: to give free access to the work of Dr Edward Bach to the public at large.
He will be known to many of you as the warrior who enabled Bach Flowers to be recognised as a beneficial force for healing, and to others who made Bach flower essences according to the original direction of Dr Bach, and fought for them to be available worldwide.
He will be remembered across the world for the many teachings he gave, the books written and published in many languages and the recorded lectures freely available on the Healingherbs website.
For us at Healing Herbs he was both a close friend and colleague who supported the marginalised and misunderstood and will be sadly missed.
